We all know that choosing what to wear for your session is perhaps the hardest part of preparing! Let’s avoid that stress and make choosing outfits super easy!
Picking out outfits for special occasions can be overwhelming. We’ve all been there. I’m the girl who would rather wear an oversized t-shirt, leggings, and sneakers rather than trying to put together anything stylish or cute. But, as the saying goes it’s not what you’re wearing, it’s the way you wear it. Trust me, posing for a camera is way less nerve-racking and anxiety provoking when you’re relaxed and not worrying about your clothing. Below are my suggestions for clothing.
Is your favorite outfit ripped jeans and a graphic tee? Wear that! Maybe you prefer the look of a boho flowy skirt? Wear that! Love a flannel long-sleeve shirt? Then wear that! My top tip is to simply wear what you love! Start with your current favorite closet items first, and then build an outfit around those selections. Don’t feel like you have to go pick out an entire new outfit—start with your most comfortable and loved items and work from there. For example your go-to pair of jeans, shorts, or crop top makes a perfect base. Side note: dresses are always a super easy option because you don’t have to worry about finding a shirt to go with it! Free People has the most amazing dresses ever!
Ok, now you’ve got a basic structure of what your outfit might look like, but what colors do you wear? I’ve got one answer for you: earth tones!
Earthy and neutral shades are PERFECT for photos because they don’t take away from you or the background. I have a color palette Pinterest board (that can be found here) that’s filled with colors that look great together.
Additionally, Pinterest is a great source for curating outfits! The only caveat is to use it as inspiration rather than comparison. I’ve included my inspirations board for couples and senior girls and guys below!

A good reference to follow includes:
– Start by choosing a casual outfit and a dressy outfit.
– Be natural and authentic to yourself. Don’t wear something that you feel uncomfortable in.
– Stick with neutral colors and earthy tones (tan, ivory, gray blue, black, brown, olive green, dusty pink, burgundy wine, etc.)
-Avoid clothing that is bright, neon colored, or contains busy patterns or logos
-Think about adding layers and accessorize! Wide brim hats, layered necklaces, delicate rings or bracelets, watches, jackets, flowy skirts or dresses, nice button-down shirt, sandals or sneakers, cute crop tops, ripped jeans, high waisted jeans/shorts, oversized sweaters, etc
