Hi, I'm Mariah

Here is a list of the top 5 things that are essential to styling and surviving your winter engagement session!

So when the temps get below 10 degrees in Wisconsin, I’m a leggings, boot socks, and oversized sweatshirt kind-of gal. I’m here to tell you that picking out outfits for your winter engagement session isn’t all that different.

1. Dress in Layers

If there is anything you take away from this post, it’s this! I’m talking all the thermal under wear. Pair that insulating base layer with fleece lined leggings, heavy-weight jeans, thick wool socks, a warm sweater, a cute pom-pom hat, and a neutral-colored peacoat and you’re set!

You can also bring along a basic winter coat that you can wear while we walk to different locations to stay warm!

2. Bring Handwarmers

Handwarmers are essential for outdoor winter shoots! These single use air-activated heat packs are perfect for keeping your digits warm while the temperature drops. You can even put a few in your boots to keep your feet warm too!

3. Wear neutral colored outerwear

A beige or gray peacoat, Carhartt jacket, or a caramel plaid shacket vs. a black Columbia winter coat can instantly elevate your style and photo. I recommend earth tones to all of my clients, as they photograph the best no matter what the location is.

4. Pack a cute pair of boots

Honestly, any winter boot will do. But, if you happen to have a stylish pair of sorel boots or cute fur lined boots boots, definitely bring them to your session!

5. Throw in a pom-pom hat or beanie

This can instantly take your outfit from classy to casual in a second! I love pom-pom hats in the winter time! Also, a basic beanie is absolute go-to!

6. BONUS: Bring a bottle of champagne!

Ok, yes I know your fingers will be freezing, but trust me, poppin’ a bottle of champagne at the end of your engagement session is so much fun!

I hope this helps you prepare you and your boo for your winter engagement session! Just embrace this special season of life that you are in together and simply have fun!

Let me capture your love story!

xoxo,

Mariah
